CtLC History!

At SCI, we believe in A World for Everyone – a world of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility. To achieve this, we’re continually enhancing our service delivery and systems for Maryland residents, closely incorporating the Charting the LifeCourse framework.
The Charting the LifeCourse framework [link: https://www.lifecoursetools.com/], according to its website, is “an authentic grassroots activity, driven by the core belief that ‘all people have the right to live, love, work, play and pursue their life aspirations.’”
SCI uses the framework and helps implement it – and its history is a long one [link: https://www.lifecoursetools.com/about-us/history-of-the-framework/]. In 2010, the Missouri Family-to-Family Resource Center put together ideas that would eventually evolve into Charting the LifeCourse. Over time, the statewide group would settle into a key role in the ongoing development and implementation of the program.
The next year, the National Agenda on Family Support for Families of People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities proposed a new structure for supporting people with disabilities and their families – and their report became the foundation for Charting the LifeCourse. In 2013, the program received its name, as stakeholders began to partner with various states to develop the framework.
From there, it continued to grow. From its beginnings in Missouri, Charting the LifeCourse reached many states including Maryland and beyond – sparking interest from as far as Singapore! – as a system to help people develop a vision for their ideal life.
