Crystal’s Story

When her Service Coordinator from Harford County began working with Crystal, she did not have staff and spent most of her time at home.  Crystal lives in a very rural area, where she had limited access to supports and had difficulty finding signing staff. Once Crystal was able to connect with staff that could sign with her, Crystal was able to find two volunteer positions with local public library branches in Whiteford and Bel Air. Crystal is being nominated for volunteer of year and hopes to gain employment.

Crystal has also become an ASL tutor for hearing individuals and even created her own tutoring business called ‘Thumbs Up!’. Crystal has been able to engage in the Deaf community, attend Deaf camp and has connected with high school friends. Crystal spends one day home a week now because her schedule is so busy!
