Madora’s Story
Madora is 62 and a big inspiration. One of the many strengths she possesses is her determination. Due to her diagnosis of depression, Madora often feels anxious when the things she wishes to accomplish do not happen as fast as she would like, but she still finds a way to persevere. In May 2021, she started working with Angel, a new SCI Support Planner, who was ready to assist and connect Madora to community-based services. Madora was interested in getting a job, buying a car, and moving to a bigger home. Angel provided resources for employment opportunities, financial resources, and housing listings that best fit Madora’s needs. Madora felt she was finally moving forward with her goals, but she wasn’t sure where to begin. Angel quickly realized she would need additional support from others in her community. During an in-person meeting, Angel connected Madora’s PRP case manager, housing coordinator, and a representative from DORS.
Madora and her newly formed team established appropriate tasks and completion dates for each of her goals. Angel was also fully engaged in the process. Together they created a communication platform for the team. Madora was excited and felt fully prepared to accomplish her goals.
Each day, Madora comes closer to reaching her goals and does not allow anything to slow her down. With continued support and her motivation to succeed, she will have a job, a new home, and the ability to utilize a vehicle in no time.
