The Diverse Human Genome
At SCI, we believe in diversity and inclusion for all – including DNA! And the National Human Genome Research Institute at NIH does too! They recently announced the new diverse “pangenome,” to include genetic sequences from nearly 50 men and women of various origins, including African Americans, Caribbean Islanders, East Asians, West Africans, and South Americans will be added to the human genome project which began in 1990.
The overall goal of the Human Genome Project is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary diseases. The new additions help increase genomic equality!
