DB’s Story
Samantha Murray is currently working with DB who receives personal support services through a provider. DB is deaf
and lives with his family and they are unable to communicate to him with signing. DB relied on signing with his personal
support staff, who assisted him with managing and learning techniques for emotional control. DB’s personal support
staff was laid off due to COVID19. This left him without many people in his life that could communicate with him through
signing.
Samantha had a good relationship with another DDA provider agency, and she was able to help assist with DB’s personal
support staff being hired through this provider. A MSFP was submitted and approved for DB to temporarily change his
provider for 6 months. He now has a direct support professional that he is familiar with that will be able to assist him
through the isolation he is feeling due to COVID 19 and communication barriers at home.
