OVERVIEW: Maryland is a Technology First State
The Maryland Department of Health – Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) and the Maryland Department of Disabilities – Assistive Technology Program (MDTAP) are establishing Maryland as a Technology First State. The goal of the partnership is to align Maryland as a leader in ensuring people with disabilities have access to assistive technology.
The Maryland Technology First (MD Technology First) initiative establishes a system of support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to access assistive technology. Assistive technology is assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities to enhance their functional independence. The initiative will enable people with disabilities and their providers to know about assistive technology resources as the first option of community support.
People with disabilities and their families, teachers, service providers and other partners will have access to a wide range of AT resources to ensure greater independence and community integration through MD Technology First.
